Bludgeon or Bloodgeon

In Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Caesar is murdered by a number of people in the court house by being stabbed to death. A mistake students often make when talking about someone being stabbed to death is that they were "bloodgeoned." This is an "eggcorn" and the real term is bludgeoned. While you may think "bloodgeoned" would be correct because of the person being stabbed and there being blood, it is actually incorrect.

As a response, write one "eggcorn" that you have used in the past or seen someone else use.

  1. Stile, I think that this is an excellet "eggcorn" word. Many students probably would not hear the difference or know the correct term.
